Air Niugini orders 2 787-8’s

The airline from Papua New Guinea plans to broaden its operations throughout the Asia-Pacific region. On June 5, Air Niugini, the national carrier of Papua New Guinea, declared that it has placed an order for two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.

The airline’s long-haul fleet will expand with the help of the most recent Boeing “clean-sheet” aircraft. Additionally, according to Air Niugini, the acquisition of the new, fuel-efficient aircraft would be used to expand service to inbound tourists by opening up new routes.

Extending the airline’s reach in the Asia-Pacific

Currently, Air Niugini runs a domestic network from Port Moresby to the remainder of Papua New Guinea. The airline also benefits from foreign travel throughout the Asia-Pacific area. Flights to Australia, Singapore, the Solomon Islands, and Fiji are included in this. However, a single Boeing 737 and two Boeing 767s fly these routes. The airline will try to increase the number of destinations it offers by utilizing the new aircraft. Gary Seddon, Air Niugini’s interim CEO, talked about the airline’s potential future expansion as a result of this order. Said Seddon,

Air Niugini will be able to expand its network across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand and achieve its objective as the leading airline in Papua New Guinea by offering the greatest air service in the region by signing this contract with Boeing for the purchase of two contemporary, widebody 787 Dreamliners.

Since almost the very beginning of the airline’s creation, Boeing has supplied Air Niugini with aircraft. However, this is Air Niugini’s first order that calls for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Erika Pearson, Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Boeing in Southeast Asia and Oceania, spoke about the recent order. She stated:

“Air Niugini can now fly to additional places from Port Moresby thanks to the 787’s strong capabilities, which will boost travel and the South Pacific region’s economy. The flexibility, exceptional efficiency, and unrivaled passenger comfort of the Dreamliner will allow Air Niugini to offer better long-haul connectivity to the islands.

One of the most desired planes is still the Boeing Dreamliner.
