Two Russian brothers were killed when their motorcycle collided on a steep road in Phuket’s Thalang area. The older brother died on the scene, while his younger sibling was severely injured.
The tragedy happened at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 8th, near the Bang Pae Waterfall in Phuket. Mr. Maksim, 36, the older brother who was operating the motorcycle, died when it crashed. Mr. Andrei, his younger brother, survived the crash and was sent to the Wachira Phuket Hospital.
The rescue teams concealed their last names from the press until they could contact their families and the embassies.
The surviving victim, according to Phuket police, was sitting on the back of the motorcycle and was critically injured. Officers suspected the two had headed to Patong to explore Bang Tao Beach. Maksim may have missed a turn on the route back to their accommodation and died after falling from a nearby cliff.
According to police, the Russian tourists may be unfamiliar with the road. The victim’s body was taken to a nearby hospital. The police are working with the Russian Embassy to return his body to his family in Russia, and they intend to interrogate his surviving sibling once he recovers.
