Firefighters rescued two elderly men from a fire that burned down their house in Songkhla province on Tuesday morning, police said.
Firefighters arrived at the old two-storey wooden house on Ratyindee Road in downtown Hat Yai district soon after police were alerted to the fire at 8.30am.
Firefighters quickly evacuated the two residents as they tried to gather their valuables instead of fleeing the flames.
Eight fire engines took around half an hour to put out the blaze after it engulfed the entire house.
The two residents were identified as Niew Saekuan, 80, and his nephew, Prachak Kornwilas, 65. Prachak reportedly tried to run back inside to try to retrieve his valuables but had to be pulled out by the firefighters.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
