Aussie teenager dies from suspected methanol-laced cocktail
A 19-year-old Australian girl has tragically died in a hospital in Thailand after consuming drinks believed to be laced with methanol during a trip to Southeast Asia. Bianca Jones, from Australia, was traveling with her best friend, Holly Bowles, when the two reportedly drank alcohol in Laos that is suspected to have contained the toxic chemical.

After seeking medical help at their accommodation, Nana’s Backpackers Hostel, both women were rushed to separate hospitals in Thailand for emergency treatment. Sadly, Bianca Jones passed away, becoming the fourth victim of a suspected methanol poisoning outbreak in Laos. Two women from Denmark and a man from the United States have also died in recent days due to similar incidents.

On Thursday, Ms. Jones’ family confirmed her death in a statement to the Herald Sun. “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news that our beloved daughter and sister, Bianca Jones, has passed away,” the family said. “She was surrounded by love, and we are comforted by the knowledge that her incredible spirit touched so many lives during her time with us. We want to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support, love, and prayers we’ve received from across Australia.”
