Thai police arrested two Chinese nationals on September 16th for their involvement in a gang that targeted car owners by using signal jammers to unlock vehicles.
The arrests took place at a motorway rest stop in Chachoengsao province, where the suspects were caught in the act attempting to steal from parked cars. The suspects, 38-year-old Zhang Jin and 31-year-old Zheng Hong, were apprehended following a joint operation by multiple police units. The authorities had been investigating a series of car thefts in the area and identified a Chinese gang as the culprits.
The gang’s method involved operating in pairs: one member would distract the car owner, while the other used a signal jammer to prevent the vehicle from locking. Once the car owner was out of sight, the second member would enter the vehicle and steal valuables.
Police confiscated signal jammers, mobile phones, and a vehicle from the suspects. A search of a condominium linked to the gang also uncovered ketamine.
While Zheng Hong admitted to his role in the thefts, Zhang Jin denied any involvement. Police suspect the gang is connected to an international call center syndicate, using stolen credit cards for fraudulent purchases abroad. Authorities are now working to track down other members of the gang. (TNA)
