Wrexham Player Breaks Silence After Being Left Out of First-Team Squad

Wrexham player Anthony Forde has finally addressed his surprising absence from the team’s lineup at the start of the season.

Following back-to-back promotions under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham is now competing in League One. After their promotion to the English third division, several players were rewarded with new contracts, while the club also strengthened its squad through new signings.

However, Forde, who signed a contract extension in May that kept him at the club until the end of the current season, has been notably absent in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign. He was left out of the squad for last week’s 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town and missed the previous matches.

After making his first appearance of the season during Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Salford City in the Football League Trophy, Forde took to Instagram to share his first post since July. The post featured a series of images from the cup match and was simply captioned with a football emoji.

Since joining Wrexham from Oxford United in July 2022, Forde has made 55 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing one assist. He will now be eager to play a more regular role in Wrexham’s strong start to the season, as they currently sit atop League One with four wins and one loss.

Despite initial skepticism about their chances of achieving a third consecutive promotion, Wrexham’s performances have impressed many critics. McElhenney commented on this during an appearance on Men in Blazers, stating, “Fortunately, the players do not listen to prognosticators, supporters, or even their family members. They go out to win because they believe they can win the league.”

He added, “It’s amusing to listen to the oddsmakers and commentators who had us pegged for mid-table.”
