Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has acquired a 1.4% minority stake in Premier League club Ipswich Town. A lifelong supporter of the team, Sheeran’s investment marks a significant deepening of his ties to the club.
Ipswich Town announced that Sheeran would have long-term access to an executive box at their Portman Road stadium but clarified that he would not take a seat on the club’s board as his involvement is described as “passive and minority.”
Having served as the club’s main shirt sponsor since 2021, Sheeran also designed the team’s Suffolk-inspired third kit. “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity,” said the 33-year-old artist.
“I have lived in Suffolk since I was three years old. While I travel the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel part of the community.”
Sheeran expressed his excitement for the season ahead, stating, “It’s such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town. There are ups and downs, but football is all about taking the highs with the lows. I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member; this is just my way of supporting the club I love.”
Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton praised Sheeran’s support, noting, “The backing Ed and his team have given us over the last three years has been remarkable. His investment feels like a natural progression in our relationship.”
Additionally, ex-Ipswich captain Matt Holland, who played for the club from 1997 to 2003, has been appointed to the board of directors.
Ipswich Town will kick off their Premier League campaign at home against Liverpool on Saturday at 12:30 BST.
