Caroline Dubois showcased a dominant performance to unanimously outpoint Maira Moneo and capture the WBC interim lightweight championship in just her 10th professional fight.
Dubois dropped Moneo in the sixth round on her way to a decisive victory, returning to London with the title. From the outset, Dubois found her rhythm, connecting with her lead right hook and following up with impressive backhand strikes. Her speed—both in footwork and hand movement—created early challenges for Moneo, who struggled to counter Dubois’ quick combinations.
While Moneo is known for her rough-and-tumble style, she was unable to keep pace with the Briton. Despite her efforts to close the distance and switch stances to confuse Dubois, Moneo couldn’t land significant blows.
Dubois expertly landed clean, powerful punches, with lead right hooks targeting Moneo’s head. Even when retreating, Dubois managed to counter with powerful left hooks, catching Moneo off guard. The young fighter also focused on Moneo’s body, delivering solid hooks that tested the Uruguayan’s resilience.
Choosing her moments wisely, Dubois unleashed well-timed combinations throughout the bout, earning rounds consistently, culminating in a knockdown in the sixth round. That decisive shot came from a perfectly placed left hook that sent Moneo tumbling backward.
Moneo exhibited her toughness by continuing to press forward until the final bell, but Dubois sealed a wide points victory with scores of 100-90, 100-89, and 99-90 from the judges.
Post-fight, Dubois reflected on her performance, saying, “She definitely came in confident, and you have to break somebody, which can be difficult at times. I think I am getting better. I am 23 years old; how many 23-year-olds get a knockdown like that against an undefeated fighter?”
