The collision occurred about one nautical mile off Bo Phut in Koh Samui district and was reported to local police at approximately 8:30 PM, according to Pol Lt Sirachat Kamunee, the officer on duty at Bo Phut police station.
The crash involved the Chor Chokchanita 22, a speedboat operated by Funnyday Co., and the Bangkok Samui 2, owned by Bangkok Samui Hospital, which were traveling in opposite directions.
Two hospital employees aboard the Bangkok Samui 2, Kriengkai Somboonying and Waruwa Artwichai, sustained injuries, as did Sutthikiat Samthong, the driver of the Chor Chokchanita 22.
Pol Lt Sirachat reported that the three injured individuals were taken to Bangkok Samui Hospital, where Kriengkai later died. Kriengkai was a staff member at Phangan International Hospital, a branch of Bangkok Samui Hospital, while Ms. Waruwa is a nurse at the hospital.
The duty officer noted that the collision occurred as the Chor Chokchanita 22 was returning to Koh Samui after taking tourists to Rin Beach on Koh Phangan for the full-moon party. The hospital speedboat was en route to its base on Koh Phangan after delivering a patient to Bangkok Samui Hospital.
At the time of the accident, the Chor Chokchanita 22 had four crew members on board, while the Bangkok Samui 2 had five people on board.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
