Fully Legalize Adult Media and Sex Toys

adult industry

Thai Opposition MP Taopiphop Limjittrakorn from the Move Forward Party has called on his social media for the legalization and regulation of adult films and sex toys, rather than a total ban in Thailand.

Mr. Taopiphop stated that the government should allow parliament to deliberate on Section 287 of the criminal code, which currently enforces a total ban on adult media and toys. He emphasized that the proposal aims to “unlock Thailand’s adult industry while maintaining regulations and not promoting complete freedom.”

His proposed amendment includes:

  1. Permitting certain types of adult media with restrictions: This includes prohibiting access to individuals under 20 years old and banning content with violent scenes such as rape.
  2. Legalizing sex toys: Ensuring they meet safety standards, overseen by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to protect users and prevent illegal trading.

Mr. Taopiphop acknowledged that this topic might raise controversy but expressed openness to any criticism. He stressed the importance of having an open debate to understand dissenting opinions.

He also clarified that the proposed amendment will not personally benefit him but sees it as his duty as a representative of the Thai people to push societal boundaries through democratic mechanisms and parliamentary discussions.

Currently, Thailand’s ban on adult content results in thousands of websites being blocked and regular raids on content creators on platforms like OnlyFans, although enforcement generally only occurs when material goes viral.
