A Chinese man in Pattaya reported to local police that he had been robbed and his sister abducted by a group of fellow Chinese nationals. However, authorities are now looking into possible inconsistencies in his version of events.
Identified as Mr. Qian Peng Yi, aged 34, he claimed that three men broke into his home in a luxurious Pattaya housing estate on the evening of July 17th, 2024. According to Mr. Yi, while he was playing video games, the intruders entered his residence, with one of them allegedly brandishing a firearm. They proceeded to restrain him by tying his hands and feet, gagging him, and covering his head with tape, all while demanding a ransom of 10 million baht in cash.
Mr. Yi asserted that the men threatened to harm his sister, Ms. Tu Peizhi, aged 33, who was also present in another part of the house at the time of the incident, if he did not comply. After ransacking the premises, the assailants purportedly departed, leaving Mr. Yi bound. He eventually managed to free himself and promptly contacted a friend before proceeding to the police station to report the incident, which he claimed also involved the abduction of his sister.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered signs of disturbance and scattered cables in Mr. Yi’s home, as well as physical marks consistent with restraint on Mr. Yi himself. Initially, he reported the disappearance of several electronic devices, including a laptop, mobile phone, and iPad. He expressed grave concern for his sister’s safety and urged the police to assist in locating her.
