Four individuals from Hong Kong have been arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle 14 kilograms of heroin out of the country.
Pol Lt Gen Panurat Lakboon, secretary-general of the Narcotics Control Board, reported that the arrests occurred on Sunday night following a tip-off. He identified two of the suspects as Leung Wai Kit and Chun He Chow, noting that Mr. Leung is suspected to be a major drug trafficker.
Thai and Hong Kong drug enforcement agencies discovered that Mr. Leung and Mr. Chun had arrived in Thailand the previous Friday to purchase drugs. On Sunday, around 7 PM, Mr. Leung and Mr. Chun entered Suvarnabhumi Airport to hand a suitcase to the other two suspects, who were waiting there. All four individuals were apprehended.
Upon examining the suitcase, authorities found 40 bags of compressed heroin, totaling 14 kilograms.
Pol Lt Gen Panurat emphasized that Thailand continues to be a critical hub for international drug traffickers.
