The Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) are investigating Rajaprajanugroh 47 School in Phetchaburi following the circulation of photos online, showing allegedly substandard meals served to students. Acting Sub Lt Thanu Wongjinda, Obec’s secretary-general, announced on Friday that a fact-finding probe had been launched after the Facebook page “Watch Dog” posted images highlighting concerns about the quality and safety of the boarding school’s meals.
One of the photos showed a breakfast consisting of plain rice and deep-fried cocktail-sized sausages, some still in their plastic casings, indicating they were cooked while packaged. Another image displayed a noodle dish with reddish-pink pork, suggesting the meat was undercooked.
These images sparked widespread criticism over the safety of school-provided meals.
Phatriyawan Phannoi, director of the Special Education Bureau, visited the school for an initial inspection. The investigation found that both packaged and unpackaged sausages had been purchased by the school. The school director explained that the kitchen crew, preparing meals early in the morning, may have failed to notice the plastic casing due to poor visibility, leading to the sausages being improperly cooked. As for the undercooked pork, the school acknowledged possible carelessness in food preparation.
Acting Sub Lt Thanu stated that if negligence is confirmed, the Obec will take disciplinary action according to the law.
Samnan Meesiri, director of the NACC’s provincial office in Phetchaburi, confirmed that his office is working with the Special Education Bureau to investigate the issue. He also suggested that the social media complaints could be linked to internal conflicts within the school. The NACC has instructed the bureau to review the school’s budget disbursement records as part of the investigation.
