A motorcyclist lost his life when his motorcycle collided with a bus making a U-turn and caught fire in Bang Lamung district, near Pattaya.
The accident occurred at 10:36 PM near the 100-kilometre marker on Highway 36 in tambon Pong.
Police arrived at the scene to find a First Transport Co. bus, registered in Bangkok, with damage to the luggage compartment door near its right rear wheels.
Nearby, a 1000cc Yamaha R1 motorcycle was engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, the severely injured and unconscious rider, Kritphum Khanthong, 37, was discovered. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he did not survive.
Chanin Srichome, 27, another biker in Kritphum’s group, said they were returning from a weekend trip when Kritphum was unable to avoid the bus as it began making a U-turn in front of him.
Bus driver Sakrit Mohkae, 35, explained that due to the size of his vehicle, he had to initiate the U-turn from the left lane. The motorcyclist, traveling in the right lane, attempted unsuccessfully to swerve into the left lane to avoid the collision.
