The Tourist Police Bureau is collaborating with embassies from five countries to address tourist scams and target 10 criminal groups in Pattaya.
Pol Lt Gen Saksira Phuek-am, the bureau’s commissioner, convened a meeting on Thursday to develop strategies for ensuring the safety of tourists in Chon Buri’s popular resort city. Representatives from the embassies of South Korea, Ukraine, Russia, India, and Switzerland attended the meeting.
Pol Lt Gen Saksira announced a crackdown on tourist scams, such as misleading or subpar tour guides and unfair sales practices. This intensified effort began on June 19 and will continue through June 25.
He emphasized that the bureau is working with various organizations to boost tourists’ confidence in visiting Pattaya.
Pol Lt Gen Saksira also visited the popular Walking Street, where he spoke with officers and instructed them to be vigilant in arresting members of 10 known criminal groups operating in Pattaya.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is set to visit Chon Buri on Saturday to personally assess the tourism situation. He plans to tour a potential Formula One race track site near Khao Phra Tamnak in Bang Lamung district.
Recently, Mr. Srettha met with Formula One organizers in Italy to discuss the possibility of adding Thailand to their race calendar in the future.
On Sunday, he will visit U-tapao airport in Rayong to discuss development projects aimed at promoting investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor.
