A Thai motorcyclist died after falling from his bike and being run over by a car on Highway 331 in Chonburi province. The accident occurred at 4:36 AM on June 20th in the inbound lane to Sattahip, near the entrance to Nong Ta Son village at kilometer marker 29.
Rescue workers arrived to find the victim, an unidentified man between 35 and 45 years old, dead at the scene. He was not carrying any identification documents. His Honda Wave 125 motorbike was found nearby, heavily damaged from being run over by a car.
The driver involved, identified only as Mr. Amnat, 57, was uninjured and waiting at the scene to provide a statement to the police. Mr. Amnat reported that he was driving his Mitsubishi Pajero home to Sattahip when he saw the motorcyclist suddenly fall in front of him. He attempted to swerve to avoid the victim but was unable to do so, striking him with his vehicle. Mr. Amnat claimed that he did not see the motorcyclist due to the darkness and the lack of street lights in the area. He immediately pulled over and called for help.
The police are investigating the accident and have asked any witnesses to come forward, as the area lacks CCTV cameras.
In related news, local residents reported a series of cable thefts in the area, which have left the region in darkness, making it dangerous for both pedestrians and motorists traveling at night.
