Jorge Masvidal is eyeing a UFC comeback and has set his sights on a bout with Justin Gaethje, believing it would be an ‘easy’ fight for him.
On June 1st, Masvidal will step into the boxing ring against Nate Diaz for a 10-round clash at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Their first encounter in 2019 saw Masvidal emerge victorious in the inaugural UFC ‘BMF’ title fight.
Since then, Diaz transitioned to boxing, facing Jake Paul and losing via unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Masvidal announced his retirement from UFC following a defeat to Gilbert Burns but remains confident about his eventual return.
The beef between Masvidal and Gaethje escalated after the latter captured the vacant ‘BMF’ title by defeating Masvidal’s teammate, Dustin Poirier, with a knockout. Their war of words continued, with Masvidal expressing a desire to break Gaethje’s orbital bone.
After Gaethje’s recent loss to Max Holloway, Masvidal sees an opportunity for a comeback fight. “It’d be an easy fight for me,” Masvidal told The MMA Hour. “He literally walks forward eating shots with no head movement. I’d love to bust his face up.”
Gaethje’s future in the sport remains uncertain after the brutal knockout loss, but the animosity between the two fighters could pave the way for an enticing UFC matchup.
