Two foreigners lost their lives in the capital between Sunday night and early Monday morning. One tragically drowned in a canal, seemingly while trying to retrieve a water gun, while the other fell from a hotel fire escape.
At 7:30 PM on Sunday, rescue teams received a report of a foreigner falling from the Pratunam pier into the Saen Saep canal. Scuba divers recovered the body near the Chaloemlok bridge. Witnesses recounted that the individual had been enjoying the Songkran water festival nearby. After accidentally dropping his water gun into the canal, he leaped in to retrieve it, leading to his drowning. The victim remained unidentified.
By 1:00 AM on Monday, police from Lumpini station responded to a call at a hotel on Sukhumvit 2 Road in Klong Toey district. They discovered the body of a 54-year-old Japanese man near a damaged car. The deceased wore a black shirt and blue jeans but no shoes.
The silver Toyota Vios, registered in Sa Kaeo province, exhibited a dented roof and a shattered windscreen, with blood stains evident on the bonnet. Investigation revealed that the man had checked into the hotel alone at 12:45 AM. He ascended the fire exit stairs to the seventh floor, from where he tragically fell to his demise. Notably, his hotel room showed no signs of disturbance.
