A total of 38 Thai and foreign tourists were injured when the bus they were traveling in collided with a 22-wheel trailer-truck on the Motorway earlier today (Feb. 5). The trailer-truck overturned, blocking three lanes of the road. The incident occurred at km37+700, inbound to Chonburi, Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan province.
Upon arriving at the scene, a Highway Police team and Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescuers found the Bangkok-Pattaya bus parked at the right lane with significant damage to its front. The 38 injured passengers were waiting for assistance by the roadside. Ten passengers received immediate first aid, with six of them being quickly transferred to Bang Pakong Hospital and four to Chularat 11 Hospital. The remaining passengers, who had minor injuries, had to wait for transportation to the hospital.
The trailer-truck, which was 300 meters away from the bus, had flipped over and was blocking three lanes. Additionally, its cargo of oil had spilled onto the road.
The driver of the trailer-truck, Mr. Chainarong (surname withheld), 32, sustained slight injuries. He reported that he was driving in the second lane from the left when the bus suddenly rammed into the back of his vehicle with full force, causing him to lose control and flip over. The bus driver also lost control and collided with the guardrail on the road shoulder.
