Local man punches Korean YouTuber for filming him

A YouTube video of a Thai man punching a South Korean YouTuber in the face on a Pattaya beach has gone viral. The foreigner was accused of photographing the Thai attacker without his consent.

Anseong Ri, 38, was attacked in a video that was posted on the [girit] YouTube channel. ThaiRath reports that Ri was livestreaming the event on Jomtien Beach in Pattaya at around two in the morning on Friday, July 28. In the video, Ri can be seen strolling down the sand while addressing his viewers. Then, Ri was shouted at by a Thai man wearing an orange shirt who was later identified as 27-year-old Anupong.

No video, Anupong! “No video!”

Ri: “OK, I didn’t record you on video.”

Ri raised his middle finger in response to Anupong pointing at him.

Anupong says, “F*ck you!”

Ri: “F*ck!”

“Do you want to fight?” asked Anupong.

Ri: “Why?”

Anupong says, “Leave!”

“What do you want?” asked Ri.

As soon as Ri finished speaking, Anupong struck him again in the face, breaking his nose. In the video, a guy can be heard pleading with Anupong to stop striking Ri.

Cat Dumb claims that Ri left the area to gather his thoughts before returning to settle the conflict. Another foreign traveler, however, stopped Ri and said, “It is not worth it.”

According to Cat Dumb, the Tourist Police arrived to intercede and fined Ri 34,000 baht for unauthorized filming of others. However, there are no fines or legal repercussions for the attacker.

Later, Ri removed the video, but Kick re-posted it and attracted a lot of users’ attention. While some viewers contend that Ri did nothing illegal and that Thailand is a dangerous country, others feel that because of his invasion of others’ privacy, Ri deserved the penalties.

While defending Ri, some foreigners in Thailand noted that Thai people are kindly and kind. Unless the other person first irritates them, Thai people will never hurt them.

Following that, ThaiRath spoke with a Thai woman named Fah who knew Anupong. Fah said…

The man and his friends who appear in the film are local sellers. Rentable beach mats and chairs are available. They frequently get into confrontations with nearby visitors and other merchants, but no one has reported them to the police. They were a little bit combative, which is typical of folks in this neighborhood, but they never began a fight. I think there were some problems before the attack.
