The case against a woman accused of a string of cyanide poisonings was handed over to prosecutors on Friday as police wrapped up their investigation into Thailand’s worst suspected serial murderer.
Police reported that an alleged eight-year murder spree resulted in 14 deaths and one survivor. On Friday, they announced they will submit the case for prosecution to the Attorney General.
According to authorities, Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, 36, is charged with roughly 80 crimes, including 14 counts of premeditated murder, which is a record in Thai criminal history.
According to Reuters, Surachate declared that Thailand would tighten its restrictions on public access to cyanide.
Police say Sararat has entered a not-guilty plea to the accusations. According to Reuters, citing authorities, she has denied murder but admitted to using cyanide.
Authorities claimed that the suspect had an addiction to internet gambling and that the suspected murders were perpetrated with a financial motivation.
She is accused of defrauding her victims out of a combined total of more than $140,000 before cyanide killing them.
More than 900 witnesses were questioned by Thai officers, who also looked at 25,000 documents.
Sararat won’t be qualified for bail since, according to the police, she would endanger the public.
Sararat miscarried earlier this week while incarcerated and was sent to the hospital, according to local media.
Police disputed that the miscarriage was caused by their interrogations.
A serious police officer who was once her ex-husband is also accused of concealing up a crime.
