Since April 11th, there have been 2,008 traffic incidents in Thailand, resulting in a total of 236 fatalities and 2,005 injuries.
Speeding was a factor in 39.16% of traffic accidents, while drunk driving was a factor in 23.95% of them, according to the Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Motorcycles were involved in 78.39% of the accidents, which also involved 42.21% main Highways Department roads and 29.66% local roads. On straight roads, accidents happened 81.37% of the time.
On Sunday, Chumphon had the most fatalities (15), while Kanchanaburi recorded the most accidents (13). Bangkok had the most fatalities (five).
Police halted 322,570 cars and motorcycles for examination, and 48,067 drivers are now facing prosecution, including 14,177 cases of operating a vehicle without a valid license. Additionally, 13,127 motorcycle riders were stopped for not donning crash helmets.
Most accidents happened between 00:00 and 01:00. 20 to 29 year olds made up 9.87% of those killed or wounded.
