The government has asked provincial authorities to roll out health and safety measures ahead of the upcoming Songkran Festival, as many people are expected to travel during this period.
Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha recently ordered provincial governors and provincial public health offices to prepare necessary steps to handle the peak travel season.
People who plan to visit their elderly family members are asked to wear masks at all times, avoid close and physical contact, refrain from eating and drinking together for long periods of time, and to celebrate the occasion in a well-ventilated area.
The government also recommends that anyone wishing to participate in Songkran events take an antigen test beforehand in order to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
According to the recommended vaccination plan, senior citizens and those with underlying conditions should meanwhile get vaccinated or receive their booster shot.
