Father killed his kids with spear fishing gun

A father from California has admitted to stabbing his two young children to death with a spear fishing gun in Mexico, according to the FBI.

Matthew Coleman, 40, of Santa Barbara, told investigators he murdered his children because he believed they ‘were going to grow into monsters’, adding he was ‘enlightened by QAnon and Illuminata conspiracy theories’.

According to court documents filed in Los Angeles, Coleman was ‘receiving visions and signs that his wife possessed serpent DNA and had passed it onto his children’.

He told federal agents he stabbed his son 17 times and his daughter 12 times with a spear gun, but did not fire it.

His arrest comes after his son Kaleo, aged two, and daughter Roxy, 10 months, were found dead near a creek near Rosarito, about 60 miles south of San Diego, Mexico, on Monday.

Coleman was handcuffed by detectives as he tried to re-enter the US at the Ysidro Point of Entry. His wife is said to have alerted authorities to his whereabouts using the Find My iPhone app.

According to court documents, the father-of-two left home with his two young children on Saturday and drove 200 miles from Santa Barbara to Rosarito. He did not take a car seat and instead left with his 10-month-old daughter in a box, the files state.

He told his wife Abby Coleman that they were going on a camping trip but did not say where.

Coleman didn’t answer any of his wife Abby’s calls or texts on Saturday, which is when she reported the three of them missing. She told police she was concerned for her family’s well-being.

Coleman checked himself and his two children into the City Express Hotel in Rosarito, where they stayed until early Monday morning, which is when he checked them out.

CCTV showed him returning to the hotel later on Monday morning on his own.

When Abby spoke to police on Sunday, Abby said she did not believe Coleman would harm her children and that they would eventually return home.

Federal agents also confirmed that she and her husband did not have any sort of argument before he left.

After allegedly killing his children, Coleman placed his children’s bodies in some nearby bushes, discarded their bloody clothes in a blue trash bin and threw the spear fishing gun near a creek, the affidavit said.

The court documents also noted that Coleman thought he ‘was saving the world from monsters’ with the murders.

Coleman was taken to Santa Ana jail on Tuesday following his arrest.

Mexican authorities have managed to recover the murder weapon, the children’s bloody clothes and a baby’s blanket.

Coleman is also said to have told federal agents that he knew it was wrong ‘but it was the only course of action that would save the world’.

Prior to the deaths, Coleman posted frequently about his wife, children and Christian faith online, and also shared pictures of his family on social media.

Baja California Attorney General, Hiram Zamora, said that a farmhand discovered the bodies when he saw splattered blood on the ground while walking near the El Descanso ranch.

The farmworker who found the dead children said one of them was in diapers, according to Border Report.

The worker, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Border Report: ‘To be honest I teared up. And I immediately notified my manager to call the police to come investigate.

‘I was scared and sad because these are tiny children who don’t know any better. Hopefully they find whoever is responsible because this is a terrible thing.’

Coleman co-founded the surfing school Lovewater Surf Co in Santa Barbara, California – where he was born – with his wife.

According to the surf school’s website, ‘Matt and Abby enjoy finding ways to better lives through surfing, experiential education and community-based projects’.

The site is still live with pictures of Coleman and his smiling family.
