One man died but his disabled father was saved by an alert niece as fire gutted their home in Warin Chamrap district of this northeastern province on Tuesday evening.
Police said the fire broke out about 6.50pm at house No 6 on Tessaban 24 road in Warin Chamrap town.
Firefighters from the Warin Chamrap Municipality rushed to the scene and put out the blaze in about one hour, but by then the house was completely destroyed.
Found dead inside the burned ruins was Pithak Prathang, 44, the son of houseowner Nusin Prathang, 68.
Mr Nusin said he was sitting in his wheelchair watching television. Pithak was in the next room, where the fire broke out.
Mr Nisin said his niece saw the smoke from outside and rushed into the house with a bucket of water, hoping to douse the fire.
She saw him sitting alone in his wheelchair and quickly pushed him outside to safety.
Mr Nusin said they narrowly escaped the flames. His niece saved his life.
Police were investigating the cause of the fire.
