He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is getting turned into a CG animated series on Netflix, according to Deadline. The new show will act as a “brand partner” series to the already announced 2D animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation from Kevin Smith and also joins the previously announced live-action Masters of the Universe film.
There’s not much detail on the show as of yet, but a logline has been released offering a pretty basic description of what we’ll see.
“On the planet of Eternia, a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into He-Man, Master of the Universe!” the logline reads. “The classic battle between He-Man and evil Skeletor rages to new heights as both hero and villain forge new and mighty teams. A new generation of heroes fighting for the fate of us all. In the end, who will become Master of the Universe?”
As for what this He-Man CG show will look like, the only visual clue we have so far is a single poster released by Netflix and Mattel.
The series is being produced by Mattel Television, along with Adam Bonnett (Descendants), Christopher Keenan (Justice League, Batman Beyond), and Rob David (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the aforementioned 2D He-Man series).
According to Mattel senior vice president Fred Soulie, the CG He-Man series will aim to please new fans and old alike.
“Masters of the Universe is one of the most iconic global franchises of all time, with a 30-year history and a passionate fan base,” Soulie said. “The entire team at Mattel is excited to introduce the world of He-Man to a new generation and, together with the talented team at Netflix, to reimagine the classic characters in a way that appeals to kids and families today, while also resonating with the fans who grew up with them.”
There’s no release date for Netflix and Mattel’s CG He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, but we can also look forward to the live-action He-Man feature reportedly coming in 2021. Netflix is also the home of She-Ra and the Princess of Power, which IGN gave a 7.9 out of 10, and recently released its fourth season.
