When police seized a pick-up vehicle in this northern province’s Muang district on Wednesday night, they discovered five million methamphetamine pills concealed beneath bags of herbal plants. There was an arrest of three alleged narcotics couriers.
The operation was prompted by an intelligence information indicating that a large number of methamphetamine pills were being transported through the center of Chiang Mai in an Isuzu pickup truck that was also carrying bags of snow lotus (Saussurea), also known as bua hima in Thai.
The car was stopped on Wednesday night in tambon Chang Phueak by Region 5 police beneath the Patan bridge over the second ring road.
The cops discovered 25 straw bags behind the bags of bua hima plants, each holding 200,000 meth pills, for a total of 5 million pills.
Three men—Nathapol, 32; Napat, 32; and Prasit, 29—who were thought to be drug couriers were taken into custody and accused of having illegal substances with the purpose of selling them.
The Chang Phueak police received the narcotics and the accused so they could proceed with legal actions.
