In the wee hours of Saturday, a significant arrest was made in Mae Taeng district as authorities seized over 14 million speed pills from a drug smuggler.
Acting on intelligence, a combined team of soldiers and police set up a checkpoint at the Kaeng Pantao road in Chiang Dao district, a hotspot for drug trafficking into inner regions. General Narit Thavornwong, leading the drug suppression unit, orchestrated the operation.
Despite attempts by the drug syndicate to avoid detection using alternative routes, law enforcement, aided by soldiers from the Pha Muang task force, intercepted three suspicious vehicles at Pang Kwang village in Mae Taeng.
Following the interception, one smuggler was apprehended, and a staggering haul of 73 fertilizer sacks, each packed with 200,000 speed pills, totaling 14.6 million pills, was confiscated from the vehicles.
This bust follows earlier seizures of 6 million meth pills in Wiang Haeng district of Chiang Mai and Mae Tha district of neighboring Lamphun province, ahead of the Songkran holiday.
