On June 28th, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the Thai Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) conducted a press conference to announce the apprehension of 13 Chinese and Burmese call center scammers at a pool villa in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai.
Law enforcement officers involved in the operation indicated that their inquiry into a Chinese scammer in southern Thailand uncovered a link to another foreign call center scam hub located at Brick Box Pool Villa & Cafe in Doi Saket.
During the raid, various agencies inspected the network and monitored the suspects’ actions. The villa, secured by fences and equipped with round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and lighting, accommodated more than a dozen foreign individuals. After gathering evidence, the police obtained a search warrant from the Chiang Mai Court and proceeded with the operation. They discovered seven Chinese and six Burmese individuals and seized 94 mobile phones, 8 laptops, and other call center-related equipment.
Interrogations revealed that the suspects allegedly congregated at the villa to deceive Chinese nationals into making long-term investments and renewing insurance policies. Law enforcement authorities stated that the group victimized more than 10 individuals daily, resulting in a daily profit of over a million baht.
Initially accused of involvement in transnational criminal organizations, secret society formation, public fraud, and related offenses, the suspects were taken to CCIB for further legal actions.
