1 dead 1 injured after motorbike hits pickup truck in accident
A Thai male has died and another injured after their motorbike smashed into a pickup truck at high speed in the Naklua area of Pattaya.
At around 5:00am on September 17th, police and emergency services were called out to investigate a fatal accident which had taken place in Naklua.
Arriving at the scene police found car and motorbike parts scattered all over the road. They also found the bodies of 2 victims, both aged between 25-20 years old, who were lying motionless in the road.
Paramedics were quickly on hand and found that one of the victims was unconscious but still breathing. Emergency treatment was given at the scene before he was rushed to a local hospital. Latest reports suggest he is in a critical state but there is hope that he will pull through.
The other victim, who was found almost 50 metres away had sadly passed away already and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was bagged up and taken to a local hospital for a full postmortem. His family have also been contacted.
The driver of the pickup, aged 36, was also at the scene but was in a pretty shaken up state. Police gave him some time to recover before taking him down to the local police station for questioning.
An eye witness at the scene told police that he had seen the 2 victims on the motorbike travelling at high speed. They had then tried an overtaking maneuver to the right of the vehicle in front, not thinking about any vehicles coming in the opposite direction.
The next thing he saw the motorbike crash straight into the front of the right pickup, sending both victims flying into the air.
Police took several photos and other bits of evidence from the scene. They will study the statement given to them by the eye witness and the driver of the pickup to see if their stories match. They will also be interviewing the survivor, once he has made a full recovery before making any final decisions on the case.
