Warrington’s wing star, Matty Ashton, showcased an unforgettable finish, helping his team score five tries against St Helens and secure a spot in the Challenge Cup semi-finals against Huddersfield Giants.
Holding a narrow 7-6 lead at halftime, Warrington dominated the second half with two early tries, including Ashton’s spectacular corner finish. Further tries from Connor Wrench, James Harrison, and George Williams, combined with Josh Thewlis’s five kicks, sealed the victory.
St Helens managed to respond with a Konrad Hurrell try and a Jon Bennison penalty but couldn’t counter Warrington’s onslaught.
The defeat marks St Helens’ second consecutive loss, prompting coach Paul Wellens to consider significant changes ahead of their next match against Hull FC.
Warrington’s coach, Sam Burgess, praised Ashton’s incredible try, emphasizing the importance of practice. While pleased with the team’s performance, Burgess believes there’s room for improvement.
