UPDATE: Body of missing German business man found

The body of 62-year-old Hans Peter Mack, a missing German businessman, was discovered in a Pattaya rental home last night. Banglamung authorities confirmed the discovery at around 12:30 AM on July 11, 2023.

Police in Pattaya targeted the rental home where Mr. Mack’s body was discovered after reviewing leads they had been following for the previous 24 hours and CCTV footage that showed the freezer being transported in a black pickup truck by what appeared to be foreigners. According to forensic specialists, Mr. Mack’s body had been dismembered, packed in dark garbage bags, and kept in the freezer at the rental space.

When the house was discovered, no one was there, but according to neighbors, someone had been living there up until yesterday morning, July 10, 2023.

The rental villa in question had been occupied, according to Mr. Rewat Rodchuen, 35, a neighbor, by a German friend of Mr. Mack who has only been named Olaf thus far and who had been questioned by police over the weekend regarding Mr. Mack’s disappearance. Rewat claims that Olaf had resided in the house for about three months.

Mr. Olaf shared a home with a German woman who was crippled, and the two of them were close with another German named Petra who Thai police believe is also a person of interest. Rewat claims that Olaf and the disabled woman, whose name he did not know, left the house early yesterday morning after being questioned by Nongprue police the previous evening.Olaf was silent during the interview and would only request that the police speak to a lawyer. The murder and mutilation of Mr. Mack may have involved Thai nationals, according to Thai police.

More details about the investigation, including arrest warrants for the suspects in Mr. Mack’s slaying, are anticipated from police today, July 11. While cautioning that it is still too early to determine the motive, Thai police believe it to be commercial in nature.

The case was taken over yesterday by Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakparn, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Police and popularly known as Big Joke.

TPN media extends its deepest sympathies to Mr. Mack’s friends and family. As new information becomes available, we will keep you informed about this important story.
