British Foreign Minister David Lammy has expressed serious concerns regarding the detention of two British MPs who were refused entry to Israel. Labour MPs Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed are reportedly the parliamentarians involved in the incident.
In a statement issued yesterday evening, Lammy emphasized that such treatment of parliamentarians is “unacceptable, counterproductive, and deeply concerning.” He conveyed to his Israeli counterparts that this is not an appropriate way to engage with British officials and confirmed that the UK government has been in contact with both MPs to offer support.
“The UK government’s focus remains on securing a return to ceasefire and negotiations to halt the bloodshed, free hostages, and resolve the conflict in Gaza,” he added.
Yuan Yang represents the constituency of Earley and Woodley, while Abtisam Mohamed represents Sheffield Central. Both MPs were elected to Parliament in July.
