Traffic policeman found in pool of blood at home

Traffic policeman

A traffic police officer reportedly shot himself to death inside his flat in Bangkok’s Lak Si district early Friday (September 11) presumably due to stress.

Thung Song Hong Police Station was notified of the incident at around 1am and sent police officers, a forensic team, medics from Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital and rescue volunteers to the scene.

The body of Pol Sergeant Suriya Suwannarat, 33, was found on the floor in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his right temple. A 9mm pistol was found next to him.

His girlfriend said they were together in the flat when she asked him to wash the clothes, adding that he replied saying he couldn’t because he had to leave. She said she then heard the gunshot and ran to call for help.

Suriya’s friends told police that he had never mentioned he was having any problems, but admitted that he and his girlfriend fought sometimes.

Police assumed the man had personal issues and sent the body for autopsy to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital. His body has been returned to his family for funeral rites.
