Thai Government Reminds Online Workers to File 2024 Taxes by March 31
The Thai government is urging online gig workers, including freelancers, food delivery riders, YouTubers, and social media influencers, to file their 2024 personal income tax forms by March 31 to avoid severe penalties.
Deputy government spokesman, Karom Phonphonklang, emphasized on Monday that all online business operators must submit detailed reports of their 2023 earnings to the Revenue Department before the deadline. For those filing through the Digital MyTax (D-MyTax) platform, the e-Filing system, or the RD Smart Tax app, the deadline extends to April 8.
Income subject to declaration includes profits from business operations, sales, commissions, and service fees.
Penalties for Non-Compliance:
- Failure to file on time: 2,000 baht fine plus 1.5% monthly interest until filing is complete.
- Intentional failure to file: Up to one year in prison, fines of up to 200,000 baht, or both.
- Filing false information: Up to seven years in prison and fines of up to 200,000 baht, plus twice the unpaid tax and a 1.5% monthly surcharge.
Mr. Karom also warned that Revenue Department officers will not contact taxpayers via LINE or send links to update them about the filing process.
