Three young women were killed in Muang Chaiyaphum early Wednesday morning when their car collided with a trailer truck, spun into a ditch and burst into flames.
The bodies of Laddawan Pimpila, Sirinnapa Thongtaeng and Koythip Luangjampa, all 23 and employed at a shop in Khon Sawan district, were extracted from the vehicle after the fire was doused.
Police were summoned at 2.45am to the scene on Highway 202 (Chaiyaphum-Bua Yai Road) in Ban Kud Tum.
Lad Yai precinct deputy inspector Pol Captain Reungsilpa Pawisut said the truck driver, Boonyang Meunraksa, saw the car approaching at high speed in his rear-view mirror.
After the crash, he stopped and rushed to the car but found the doors locked.
He was about to go looking for assistance when the sedan caught fire.
The bodies were sent to a morgue for formal identification. Relatives collected the remains at 7.20am.
