The Honda LPGA Thailand event commences this week at the Siam Country Club Old Course in Pattaya, with World No.1 Lilia Vu set to defend her title. The tournament will feature a field of 72 players in a 72-hole, no-cut event, competing for a purse of US$1.7 million.
Last year’s victory at Pattaya marked the beginning of a significant season for Vu, during which she secured an additional three wins, including two major titles. She also earned the Player of the Year honors – a remarkable achievement.
This year, Vu will face stiff competition from a talented roster, including third-ranked Celine Boutier, fourth-ranked Yin Ruoning, No.8 Charlie Hull, and former No.1 Ko Jin-Young. Also among the participants is Patty Tavatanakit, who recently clinched victory at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International.
The tournament also includes 11 Thai players, such as Pajaree Anannarukarn and Ariya Jutanugarn, among others. As for the pairings, Vu will tee off with Ariya and Ko in the first round, while Patty will be playing alongside Yin and Boutier.
For Boutier, who has strong family ties to Thailand, this tournament holds a special significance. She has achieved notable success in past appearances and hopes to excel once again, especially in the presence of her parents.
