Plans for four airport expansion
Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Don Mueang International Airport, U-Tapao International Airport in Rayong, and Phuket International Airport are the four major airports that the Thai government is expanding to accommodate the growing number of tourists. The expansion of Suvarnabhumi International Airport has already begun, and work on the new Satellite Airport Terminal-1 (SAT-1) is scheduled to be completed later this year. The new terminal will boost the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 45 million to 60 million. Additionally, a third runway is being constructed; it will be finished in 2024.
Construction on the first phase of U-Tapao and the Don Mueang International Airport expansion, both of which were approved in November 2022, is anticipated to begin this year. The international terminal will be expanded as part of Phuket International Airport’s Phase 2 extension project, which seeks to boost passenger capacity from 12.5 million yearly to 18 million. The capacity of Phuket will increase from 12.5 million annually to 18 million as a result of the expansion, which will include a new international terminal.
