Thailand Covid 19 UPDATE

There were 8,968 new Covid-19 cases and 64 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.

There were 8,778 cases in the general population and 190 among prison inmates.

The number of new cases fell from 9,658 announced on Thursday, when the country also reported 84 more deaths.

On Thursday, 8,747 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,865,078 Covid-19 patients, 1,748,144 of whom have recovered to date.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,893,941 Covid-19 cases, with 1,775,570 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 18,976 during the third wave and 19,070 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 64 latest fatalities were between the ages of one and 101 years and included one Myanmar national.

Bangkok recorded 12 new deaths while a further four were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (3) and Nakhon Pathom (1).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 27 more deaths – in Ayutthaya (5), Kanchanaburi (4), Rayong (4), Chachoengsao (3), Saraburi (2), Suphan Buri (2), Ang Thong (1), Phetchaburi (1), Ratchaburi (1), Samut Songkhram (1), Trat (1), Sa Kaeo (1) and Chon Buri (1).

The Northeast had one new fatality, in Mukdahan.

The South reported 14 more deaths – in Pattani (4), Nakhon Si Thammarat (3), Yala (2), Narathiwat (1), Phatthalung (1), Satun (1), Phangnga (1) and Surat Thani (1).

The North saw six new fatalities – in Tak (3), Phetchabun (2) and Chiang Mai (1).

The 8,968 new cases included 8,752 local infections and 26 imported cases.

Of the local infections, 8,328 were confirmed at hospitals and 424 via mass testing.

Bangkok had 802 new cases, followed by 595 in Songkhla, 468 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 403 in Chiang Mai, 389 in Pattani, 383 in Yala, 382 in Chon Buri, 295 in Narathiwat, 253 in Trang and 248 in Rayong.

Greater Bangkok reported 1,580 new cases and 18 new deaths. Four southern border provinces had 1,869 new cases and 10 new fatalities, while 67 other provinces recorded 5,980 new cases and 53 new deaths.

The 26 imported cases were from the United Arab Emirates (1), the United States (1), France (1), Russia (3), Vietnam (1), Cambodia (7), Myanmar (11) and Malaysia (1).

On Thursday 99,301 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 99,144 on the previous day), including 2,222 seriously ill patients (down from 2,281) and 515 dependent on ventilators (down from 526).

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 475,515 in 24 hours to 246.27 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,855 to 4.99 million.

The United States had the most cases at 46.68 million, up 78,460, and the most deaths at 763,784, up 1,208.
