A tragic incident occurred at a temple in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, where a young Thai teacher fatally shot his former wife and father-in-law before fleeing the scene. The suspect has since reached out to the police to surrender.
The shooting took place at Wat Chao Pluk in Maha Rat district, with officers from Rong Chang Police Station receiving the report at 6:30 pm. Upon arrival, they discovered a bronze-gold Toyota sedan riddled with bullet holes. Eight bullets were found in the front windshield, one in the driver’s side window, and several shell casings were scattered around the area.
Inside the car, officers found the bodies of 29-year-old Daranee, a contract teacher, and her 59-year-old father, Nipon, in the driver’s and passenger’s seats, respectively. Witness 26-year-old Nuntawut reported that Daranee had been attending an aerobics session at the temple. As she was leaving, her former husband, Chokchai, arrived with their two young sons, aged two and four, in an attempt to reconcile.
Chokchai blocked Daranee’s vehicle and, following an argument, shot Nipon before moving to the driver’s side and shooting Daranee. He then fled the scene with their children. Preliminary investigations reveal that Daranee regularly taught aerobics at the temple. Chokchai, a skilled teacher from a local school, had recently divorced Daranee and had taken their children in a bid to restore their relationship.
Witnesses described Chokchai as desperate and emotional, which culminated in the tragic shooting. The community is in shock, and the police are focused on ensuring the safety of the children and supporting the grieving family.
Chokchai has since contacted the police to surrender. Authorities are preparing to take him into custody and continue investigating the motives and circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event, according to KhaoSod.
