Thai human-trafficking suspect dies in police custody in Bangladesh

Cox’s Bazar Jail Superintendent Md Bajlur Rashid Akhanda said Som Quat Shuanchi, 59, a human-trafficking suspect, died at state-run Cox’s Bazar General Hospital on Tuesday night.

Rashid said they took Shuanchi to the hospital in the evening on that day when the suspect complained of stomach ache.

He died around 11pm, the jail official said.

Shuanchi was arrested in February, 2014. He was being tried on charges of human trafficking and travelling without any valid document.

The body has been kept at the hospital for post-mortem examination, Rashid said.
