Swedish drug trafficker arrested

A 60-year-old Swedish man, Reno Penti Olavi Martin

After a two-year escape from drug trafficking, a 60-year-old Swedish man named Reno Penti Olavi Martin was apprehended on Koh Samui island in Thailand’s Surat Thani province on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Martin was wanted for drug trafficking in the Thonglor district in 2020 by the Bangkok South Criminal Court.

The arrest was made possible, according to Suphruk Phankoson, the chief of immigration for Surat Thani, by the official’s monitoring of the man’s activity on social media as he identified the location of a resort he visited on the island in a post.

The Swedish man also overstayed his visa by a total of 624 days, according to the police, even though his travel documents allowed him to remain in Thailand until December 22, 2021.

The Surat Thani Immigration Police are currently holding Martin.
