The new satellite terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport which is named SAT-1 is due to have a soft opening in September. It is a step forward to improving air passenger services according to AOT director Kirati Kitmanawat.
SAT-1 is covering 216,000 square meters of floor space. The terminal itself has 28 parking bays and 6 of the 28 parking bays are capable to handle the AIrbus A380. It will be equipped with the latest technology which makes the boarding process a lot easier and a lot more efficient. Also, it will cope with the expansion plans that Suvarnabhumi Airport has planned out.
According to Mr. Kirati the new terminal at Suvarnabhumi which has been planned for sometime will be opened in 2027.
For the new 40 Billion baht North expansion project the terminal will include a new domestic building which will be completely separated from the main existing building.
The project will be expedited so that it can be operational within the coming 5 years. The terminal itself is linked with the 3 airport high speed train project. The project is connecting Don-Mueang-Suvarnabhumi-Pattaya-Utapao.
Another plan is being made for the Eastern expansion project which will enlarge the expansion of the Suvarnabhumi Airport’s main terminal building. It will be increased by 60,000 square meters. Will also increase the capability to handle 15 million more passengers per year. the budget for the construction is set at 7.830 billion baht. Construction of the expansion is planned to start in 2024. It is expected to be completed in 2027 subject if any delays or not.
The Expansion is in line with IATA (International Air Transport Association) and it’s expected that Suvarnabhumi will be seeing 65 million passengers per year. The airport will be seeing it go up to 95 million passengers per year in 2028.
AOT is now preparing to develop a 723 Rai project near Suvarnabhumi Airport which will be used for the Airport city as well as the Duty-Free development area project.
AOT now is in the process of taking different opinions from potential investors who will bid for the Airport’s project which will be called in 2024. The construction itself is expected in 2025 and will be finished in 2028 again subject to any delays.
Mr. Kirati has said that the AOT plans to review some service-providing contracts. It also wants to reduce monopolistic practices at the premium, middle, and general levels for more passenger to make choices.
