A rescue operation is underway in Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, where three workers—a Chinese national and two Myanmar nationals—are trapped inside a collapsed train tunnel that was under construction. This tunnel is part of the Thai-Chinese high-speed train project in the Khlong Khananchit area of the Chanthuek sub-district.
The tunnel ceiling collapsed, trapping the workers. A specialized device, designed to detect buried casualties, was deployed and detected vital signs from the three workers around 2:30 am. This positive sign has spurred the rescue team, from the Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, to intensify their efforts.
The rescue team, which specializes in searching for and rescuing victims trapped under collapsed structures, is tackling their first mission involving a collapsed tunnel. In collaboration with engineers responsible for the tunnel’s construction, they are carefully planning the rescue operation. The workers are believed to be trapped about 45 meters from the collapse site.
To facilitate their rescue, an air vent has been inserted through the rubble to the area where the workers were detected, providing them with fresh air. The next step involves installing a larger pipe, through which the trapped workers can be extracted.
This operation is critical, as time is of the essence to ensure the safety and survival of the trapped workers.
