One of the three main attorneys representing Sean “Diddy” Combs in his high-profile federal sex trafficking case has filed a motion to withdraw, citing unspecified “sufficient reasons” for his decision. The withdrawal comes as Combs remains in jail awaiting trial on multiple charges he has persistently denied.
In a court filing, lawyer Anthony Ricco stated, “Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs.” While he did not provide specific reasons, he indicated they are protected by attorney-client privilege. Combs’ remaining attorneys, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, will continue to represent him.
Earlier, Combs’ legal team sought to have one of the charges—transportation to engage in prostitution—dismissed, arguing that such prosecutions against white individuals were unprecedented. This charge stems from The Mann Act, established in 1910 to combat the trafficking of women for prostitution.
In 2024, Combs faced significant scrutiny as allegations regarding his conduct emerged in the wake of a lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. The lawsuit accused him of abuse and prompted a series of criminal complaints, including rape and sexual assault.
Following a series of legal developments, Combs has faced increasing challenges, including a denial of bail and the judge’s ruling that he stay in jail to prevent potential tampering with witnesses.
As the legal proceedings progress, the circumstances surrounding Combs’ situation continue to unfold, drawing considerable public interest and scrutiny.
