Scrap Metal Theft Turns Fatal at Abandoned Condo Near Pattaya

A tragic accident at an abandoned eight-story condo in Na Jomtien, Sattahip, has left one man dead after an apparent fall while attempting to steal scrap metal.

Authorities were alerted to the incident on March 30, where they discovered the body of 50-year-old Somjai on the second floor of the building. He was found lying face up in a pool of blood with severe head injuries, indicating he had likely been dead for about six hours.

Next to the body, police found makeshift bamboo and wooden ladders connecting the second and third floors. Somjai’s friend, 43-year-old Panya, was also at the scene, visibly shaken and covered in blood. He admitted that the two had broken into the building to steal scrap metal and electrical wires to sell for drug money.

According to Panya, Somjai had climbed to the second floor while he remained below. Moments later, he heard a loud crash and discovered his friend unresponsive in a pool of blood. Investigators believe Somjai lost his balance while attempting to climb to the third floor and suffered a fatal head injury upon impact with the concrete.

The body has been sent to the Police Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy. Meanwhile, authorities plan to take legal action against Panya for theft, trespassing, and drug-related offenses. The owner of the abandoned condo will also be contacted for further investigation.
