In a significant operation, police officers in Lamphun intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt, resulting in the seizure of over 12 million amphetamine pills. This bust, the largest in the northern region in the past decade, unfolded at the Wang Din police checkpoint on Phahonyothin Road in Li, Lamphun.
The breakthrough occurred when officers flagged down two white pickup trucks outfitted with steel-framed bee boxes. The drivers, identified as Mr. Channarong, 37, and Mr. Sarawut, 49, were stopped for inspection. Upon examination, police uncovered that the 120 bee hive boxes were concealing packages containing the vast quantity of amphetamine pills.
The scale of the seizure underscores the magnitude of the smuggling operation and highlights the effectiveness of the police checkpoint’s vigilance. Both suspects were promptly detained and transferred to Li police station for further legal procedures.
This arrest marks a significant milestone in efforts to disrupt the illicit drug trade within Thailand. Authorities are intensifying their investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the smuggling network. The ultimate objective is to dismantle the entire operation, holding all involved parties accountable and preventing future smuggling attempts.
