PM: In every crisis lies the seed of opportunity

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has called on all sectors to turn the PM2.5 crisis into an opportunity, thanking all units for their cooperation in the country’s fight against hazardous dust particles in the atmosphere.

Puttipong Punnakanta, spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, said the Thai premier has been closely monitoring air pollution in Bangkok and its vicinity and extended his gratitude to both governmental agencies and private organizations for their responses to the administration’s air pollution control measures including the crackdown on vehicles emitting black fumes, deploying mist spraying drones and aircraft, allowing employees and officials to work from home, replacing regular diesel with B20 biodiesel, and avoiding burning of waste in the open air.

The Prime Minister has asked Thai society to turn this crisis into an opportunity by uniting the nation to fight smog; he also instructed the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate the pollution control effort between responsible organs for greater efficiency.

The spokesperson added that the Ministry of Education is assessing whether or not schools in affected areas should remain closed until air quality improves.
