Fritz staged a comeback after losing the first set to claim a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) win. He will face Chile’s Cristian Garin, who upset German top seed Alexander Zverev with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Holger Rune of Denmark continued his quest for a third consecutive Bavarian International title with a straight-sets win over Switzerland’s Marc-Andrea Husler.
In Barcelona, Norwegian third seed Casper Ruud awaits Etcheverry after defeating Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas survived a thrilling encounter against Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta, saving two match points before clinching a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) victory.
