Neymar did not hold back when asked to rank himself, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo in a rapid-fire game that produced some intriguing responses.
In an interview with Pingpong.com, the Brazilian star participated in a rapid-fire “winner stays on” game where he had to choose between some of the greatest players ever to grace the game.
The game began with Thierry Henry against Arjen Robben, with Neymar choosing Henry. However, when Henry was paired against current France star and Neymar’s former teammate Kylian Mbappe, Neymar opted for the Real Madrid signing.
Mbappe was then chosen over Ousmane Dembele, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jack Grealish. But when it came to a choice between Mbappe and Neymar’s compatriot Ronaldinho, Neymar selected Ronaldinho.
The real challenge came when Neymar had to choose between Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo. After much deliberation, he went with Ronaldo.
When faced with the age-old debate of Ronaldo vs. Messi, Neymar predictably sided with his former Barcelona and PSG colleague, Messi. He holds the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner in such high regard that he even chose Messi over himself without hesitation.
Neymar, Brazil’s record goalscorer with 79 goals, was once widely regarded as the third best player behind Messi and Ronaldo. He finished third in the Ballon d’Or rankings in 2015 and 2017. Now, at 32 and playing in Saudi Arabia, many believe he did not fully reach his potential.
However, England star Bukayo Saka recently stated that Neymar deserves more respect. In an interview with talkSPORT, Saka said, “I’ve got to say Neymar. I think people talk about him, but he should be talked about more. He deserves more respect than he gets. Personally, that’s what I feel.”
